Raising a child has never been easy or simple. Things aren't exactly getting easier either.

Being a parent means you're handling a lot. You want your child to be happy. You want to stabilize the roller-coaster of emotions. You want to be able to be there for them and also help them to be okay when you're not there - like at school. Generally, you also want them to behave well.

What does it mean to behave well?

For your kids, it means that they behave like kids. Just like you, sometimes they behave great. Sometimes they do the things that kids do as they explore boundaries, relationships, and themselves. Those are the things that can cause us concern as parents.

You're here because your child behaves "not well" more than seems safe, way more than you're comfortable with and it's confusing. It's also very tiring.

COURAGE - The ability to take safe risks with the belief they can handle challenging situations.

CONNECTION - The ability to connect with others, & develop healthy & appropriate relationships.

CAPABLE - The belief that "I Can" resulting in self-control knowing they have a sense of competence.

COUNT - Kids need to know that they matter & make a difference in the world and to those around them.

What your child needs to thrive:

COURAGE - The ability to take safe risks with the belief they can

                   handle challenging situations.

CONNECTION - The ability to connect with others, & develop

                          healthy & appropriate relationships.

CAPABLE - The belief that "I Can" resulting in self-control

& knowing they have a sense of competence.

COUNT - Kids need to know that they matter & make a

difference in the world and to those around them.

There are many things that can shake up these 4 C's such as:

  • moving

  • bullying

  • trauma & crisis

  • trouble at school

  • family/friend/pet loss

  • parent divorce or family conflict

  • abandonment, abuse & neglect

  • parent divorce or family conflict

And sometimes, nothing specific happens, but something still doesn't feel okay.

This is where therapy for kids - such as play therapy and sand tray, comes in.
